Holding Up the Universe

This book was good - it's about Libby, America's fattest teen (she won that title from a tv show and had to have a crane get her out of her house) and how after losing a ton of weight she ends up going to another school to start over.

Libby meets Jack, a boy with a secret of his own. He can't remember faces.

The book is about their friendship and the cruelty and redemption of adolescence. It's a good book.

The SellOut

This book was amazing. It is satire about race relations in America. The plot is a bit (okay, a lot) absurd, but the story isn't the point. It's the commentary on race. The novel is unorthodox, uncomfortable, and hilarious. Must read.

The Orphan Mother

Boring. Put it down. Poorly written.

The Other Einstein

I enjoyed this book. It was an interesting perspective and it made me rethink history a bit. Because most of history is from men's view, it is biased against women. I appreciated how the book brought Albert back down to human level, while raising up his wife and her intellect. It's a good historical fiction novel.

Boys in the Boat

This book was good and I enjoyed reading it. Kids can read the young reader edition.

A Man Called Ove

Oh, how I loved this book. It was excellent in all ways possible - witty, endearing and complex characters, great plot. It's one of those books where I don't even need to write down what the plot was because I will still remember it years from now.

My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry

I picked up this book because I loved the author's book, A Man Called Ove. This one was similar to and different from. It was about family secret's from a child's perspective. It started a bit strange in that it read more like fantasy, but eventually the readers realizes it's just childhood stories that she thought were real and in a way, are.

It was a good book that I'd recommend.
